Jelly! Jelly! Jelly!

Our annual summer Pack campout was once again a smashing success with most of our Pack attending once again. We may be a small pack, but one that knows how to have a great time!

Thanks for all the kids who are scouts that make it possible for us to have these fun activities. Also, thanks to all the parents who attended and pitched in to help the scouts and siblings with everything from the pack activities to the meal preparation to the evening campfire program.

The Wolf Cubs and Webelos were able to complete several activities toward their advancement next year and also earn their geography, volleyball and frisbee golf (ultimate) belt loops - perhaps others too! We'll see at the next Pack meeting.

Other highlights included a deer sighting, our new Pack motto "Jelly! Jelly! Jelly! Oh, no, not that jelly!" courtesy of James (a future cub scout no doubt), the scavenger hunt (thanks, Tod), wiffle ball, and geocaching.

2011 Graduation Ceremonies - Congrats Cubs!

We had another tremendous graduation ceremony for our scouts. The weather was perfect due to the cooler than normal weather this spring/early summer. Here are the photos to prove it.

Pack 380 Graduation Ceremonies

The Pack 380 Campfire Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for June 8, Wednesday, at 6:45pm. The ceremony will be at Camp Romanoaks in Lafayette.

The ceremony will feature graduation ceremonies for the Tiger Cubs to the rank of Wolf Cub as well as a special presentation for the first year Webelos.

The Tiger Cubs and Webelos have been busy practicing skits for the event, but we'll have enough time for anyone else who wants to take a stab at a song, skit or joke on the outdoor stage next to the campfire.

We'll also have refreshments including a cake and drinks.

Directions:

Take Gregory Lane west from Contra Costa Boulevard in Pleasant Hill. Gregory Lane will become Grayson Road.
Where Grayson ends at Reliez Valley Road, turn left.
Look for the entrance gate on the right side of the road. Look for scouts at the gate.

Fun at the Blackhawk 500

Although we didn't come home with any trophies this year, Ryan, David and Ethan did Pack 380 proud at the Blackhawk 500. We learned that there is very little difference between 1st place and 15th place or even 22nd place. In the Webelos division, the overall winner had a cumulative time of 12.431 seconds for 4 heats. Ethan finished in 15th place and had a cumulative time of 13.059 seconds, just six tenths of a second behind over 4 heats, or in other words just 0.15 seconds slower per race. All three of our scouts had their cars clocked at a scaled speed of over 200 miles per hour. Now that's fast!

James, David's little brother and perhaps a future Pack 380 cub scout, entered a car in the open class for non-scouts. He had the fastest car of the four Pack 380 related cars, clocking an average scaled speed of over 210 miles per hour!

Here's a slide show from our day at the Blackhawk 500. Besides the races, there was a clown making balloon animals for the kids, a magic show, and of course all of the cars at the Blackhawk Museum. It was a great time!
